I am an independent journalist. I am a Kurdish citizen from Syria. We are Kurds in Syria. We do not have rights like the rest of the Syrian people. We have been denied the most basic rights to speak Kurdish. Speaking Kurdish in Syria exposes the Kurds to legal accountability. This is a very small part along with other deliberate things against the Kurds. On 15 March 2011, a popular revolution began in Syria. The Syrian people took to the streets and called on the government to fight corruption and spread justice among society. But the Syrian government repressed the demonstrations and ignored the demands of the people. Those moments were unexpected in Syria. No one in Syria expected a popular revolution in Syria. I participated in this revolution because I am a persecuted person and I have demands. I want freedom. I want democracy. I want justice. I want to purge the police and the army of the corrupt. But Bashar al-Assad's regime suppressed demonstrations and shot at peaceful protesters. Many of the martyrs in Syria have fallen, those who died have given their lives for freedom and justice.
