Late Medieval/early post-Medieval cast copper alloy cup weight, 13th-16th century. Dish shaped with flat base, straight sloping sides, and concave internally. The plain flat rim is decorated with c.25 unevenly spaced pelleted annulets (diameter 1.8mm). Diagonal file marks on the outer surface of the sides - these are probably file adjustment marks to make the weight accurate. At one point on the side there are marks as though the weight had been picked up by ?pincers, leaving two grooves on the inside (one of which extends to the base and has some iron corrosion at the top - see 2nd image), and one wider (c.3.5mm) but shorter groove on the outside. Fine dark green patina; the internal surface is roughened in places and a lighter green than the rest of the vessel. Height 8.2mm, diameter at base c.19mm, diameter at rim 25.2mm, thickness of rim 1.5mm-2.9mm, internal depth 7mm, weight 12.24g.This could be an 8 pennyweight under the English troy system (
