A lead alloy conical standing weight of probable Medieval or Post Medieval date, about AD 1250 - 1800. The weight has a rounded oval base, and is a flattened conical shape. There is a central longitudinal hole through the centre which probably held an iron suspension loop. The weight has a white patina and is covered with dints and grooves. It is 35.1mm tall, and has a diameter of 30.6mm. It has a mass of 145g, so was probably not a standard weight, as it equates to 5 and 1/8th ounces. Alternatively, and allowing for the additional weight of an iron loop, it may have been a half pound weight in either the Tower system (12 ounces of 29.2g) or the Troy system (12 ounces of 31.1g) (Egan, 1998, The Medieval Household, page 302).
