The rock sparrow is very similar to a house sparrow, but under the outstretched neck there is a yellow spot. The beak is conical, bicolor, the mustache is pale and has two lateral stripes that form the crown. The subspecies “petronia” lives in Madeira and the Canary Islands, in southern Europe and reaches to western Turkey. The rock sparrow (Fringilla petronia) prefers mountain areas, but also open areas, eroded ravines, ravines, uedas, quarries, ruins, even inhabited buildings. In nature the population is decreasing and the species is on the IUCN Red List with minimal concern status. The song is part of the collection founded by the ornithologist Robert Ritter von Dombrowski, who worked at the Museum from 1895-1916.
