Both my parents were born in India. They, along with some of their family members, moved to Pakistan after its creation in 1947 during Partition. In 1973, my father moved to Rome, Italy, from Pakistan because he wanted to start a new life in a new place and circumstances were such that he could. This is his work diary from 1973. I was born that year. In it are his daily work notes along with names of people he met and friends he made and observations pertaining to his everyday work. But looking carefully through it, I also found the love letters my mom and him exchanged during that year, for she was pregnant with me and stayed in Pakistan. After giving birth to me, she joined him, I was six months old when I arrived in Rome. My father had a special connection with Rome and throughout his life encouraged musicians and poets to exchange their stories and artistry, opening his house to endless sessions of concerts and poetry readings from artists of all origins. His home is Rome, he is buried there, he passed away in the year 2000.
